Reinforcing Value Through Design

October 5, 2017

Value through designAccompanying every organization’s mission statement is a set of values and principles that embody the delivery of a product or service. This could be cutting-edge innovation, friendly customer service, dependability, quality or another admirable characteristic. It is the thought or feeling that customers have about them; marketing professionals call this branding.

Unfortunately, when many business owners design the interior of a small office or larger corporate facility, they often think in terms of what is functional, what is ‘cool’, and what is comfortable for the staff – all worthy considerations. But, without professional advice, they often send mixed signals that can be disjointed. Without the guidance of a professional design firm, little thought is given to how the interior design and architecture of a space is an extension of the organization’s brand. Branding an office reinforces the messaging and value to visiting clients and solidifies the mission and purpose in the minds of the employees.

DesignPoint recently completed an interior design project for a large international biotech company in Bridgewater, NJ. The project involved renovating an existing space into a world-class research and development facility. It was critical that this space also function as a showcase for the company’s clients and investors — it was an excellent opportunity to highlight their brand.

Having worked with the company to design their global headquarters office, DesignPoint was called upon once again to create an interior space that would powerfully reinforce their culture. DesignPoint’s goal was to convert a rather sterile interior into a vibrant modern office environment. Special care was taken to influence the visitor with the corporate brand as they entered and traveled throughout the space. This included new lighting and fixtures, a texture wall, new ceilings, and a series of sophisticated branding walls and signage. DesignPoint also specified furniture to fit the space and designed a special bench seat built into the conference room to provide additional seating for large meetings.

Kevin Mire of The Cadence Group, a full-service real estate consulting firm based in Montclair, NJ, who helped the mutual client get into their space, says “I was impressed with DesignPoint’s ability to respond in a short timeframe with a quality product.”
