Renovation Completed for Senior Living in Boston

October 18, 2017

Lobby Standish Village is an immense brick structure along the Neponset River in the heart of the historic Lower Mills neighborhood bordering Dorchester, and Milton Massachusetts.  The charm of the community is only rivaled by its history.

Located on 1.75 acres Standish Village is a historical landmark that originally served as a 19th century mill. Some architectural features of the original mill that have been retained include the decorative turrets, beautiful red brick and oversized windows. Today, Standish is home to 85 assisted living apartments and a memory care neighborhood.

Sentio Healthcare Properties, Inc., a real estate investment trust, purchased the senior living community in 2013. Sentio enlisted help for the interior architectural design from DesignPoint, Inc. to reinvigorate the interior of the community.

The internal renovation, as crafted by DesignPoint, was completed in the spring of 2017. It was the culmination of an interior design project that lasted over a year with DesignPoint overseeing all facets of the interior design from purchasing to construction administration.

As the trends in lifestyle and care in senior living evolve, so has the functionality of the residents’ spaces as well as the use of staff areas. The lead designer on the project Kathy Sportelli, Vice President & Senior Designer at DesignPoint, evaluated the layout and directed the renovation to leverage best practices in senior living space planning. DesignPoint has overseen dozens of similar projects in assisted living and memory care.

OutsideThe project focused on overhauling all common areas including the entrance, lobby, dining and resident social areas. They were maximized to encourage engagement and socialization among residents as well as provide functional space that could be adapted for programming.

DesignPoint specified the interior architecture, finishes, fixtures and furniture. Everything from floor and wall covering, window treatments and furnishings are new.

Not to be overlooked, the entrance and corridors in the memory care wing were refreshed and modernized. Wood-look vinyl flooring was placed in the lobby and dining areas, and new carpet was used strategically throughout the wing. DesignPoint selected new colors, finishes and artwork based on the most recent findings and best practices for dementia care living.

DesignPoint is a valuable partner to Sentio to create attractive accommodations appealing to potential residents and provide comfortable living environments for existing residents. Sentio has trusted DesignPoint with major renovation projects at several of their communities. The value of DesignPoint’s work speaks for itself in repeat engagements as well as the pride in which Standish Village now promotes its renovations in marketing and on its web site
